Metis Eddy Android 4.2 tablet for kids launched for Rs 9,999

Educational solutions start-up Metis Learning has launched Eddy Android tablet for kids aged between 2 and 10 years, in India. The tablet has been customized for kids and comes with pre-loaded content based on their school’s curriculum, the company claims.
Eddy;s kids learning tablet, is being offered at an introductory price of Rs. 9,999 till February 20, and at present is exclusively available on Amazon.com and the start-up’s website, eddytablet.com.
The Eddy tablet sports a 7-inch IPS display with 1024×600 pixels resolution and is powered by a 1.6GHz Cortex-A9 dual-core processor with 1GB of RAM. It has an 8GB built-in storage which is expandable by up to 32GB using a microSD card. It sports a 2-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera.
Connectivity-wise, the tablet offers Wi-Fi and voice calling over 3G network but lags Bluetooth. It runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean out of the box and in addition to that features kid-specific content. Tablet packs a 3200mAh battery, rated to deliver up to four hours of continuous usage time on full charge.
Children can read books, learn to play the piano, explore the world and the universe as well as practice math through games on Eddy. The team of seasoned educators and experts behind Eddy have ensured that only games which are highly engaging, violence-free and enjoyable for children are selected.
Speaking at the launch, Metis Learning CEO Bharat Gulia said: “India is a huge potential market for tablets and the country saw the sale of about 4.5 million units last year. The kids tablet space has a potential of about 4.5 units.” Eddy is the only tablet to map school curriculum to games and has been designed by a team with over 100 years of combined experience, he added.
Eddy also comes with an exclusive recommendation engine for parents, the Kids Radar, which recommends the most suitable learning apps for their kids on the Play store.
Earlier Samsung too had announced the Galaxy Tab 3 Kids but it has not been launched in India, yet.
