Asus ZenFone 4 launch actually set for August 17?

Around a month ago, a Russian retailer unveiled the ZenFone 4 Max with a massive 5,000 mAh battery. Other than that, however, we don’t know much about the upcoming ZenFone family, which was originally planned to be unveiled back in May. The company CEO Jerry Shen later explained that instead of doing the launch event at Computex like previous years, he wanted to make some last-minute adjustments to this year’s ZenFone devices, and that’s why they would be announced in July instead.

Obviously, July came and went, and not only did Asus fail to deliver its promise, but the company sent out an invitation for August 19 press conference only to revoke it a few days later. Right now, it looks like the Taiwanese company will unveil the ZenFone 4 family on August 17, but whether or not Asus changes its mind again won’t matter anymore because we now know everything about the upcoming ZenFone 4, ZenFone 4 Selfie, and ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro.

ZenFone 4

WinFuture

The ZenFone 4 is unmistakably Asus: it doesn’t look drastically different from its predecessor except it follows the current smartphone trend and features a dual-lens camera on the back, one 8-megapixel sensor and one 12-megapixel sensor. Asus will take LG’s approach and offer wide field of view instead of optical zoom or monochrome images.

On the front is a 5.5-inch FHD OLED display, and inside, you’ll find 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, and a 3,300 mAh battery. The cheaper version will come with Snapdragon 630 whereas the more powerful and expensive version will come with Snapdragon 660. Asus France briefly listed the ZenFone 4 for €499 or $580 although it’s not clear to which version it was referring.

The ZenFone 4 will not be the company’s flagship this year – the ZenFone 4 Pro will be.

It’s worth noting that the ZenFone 4 will not be the company’s flagship this year; the ZenFone 4 Pro is expected to launch with a dual-lens camera with optical zoom, Snapdragon 835, and 6 GB of RAM.

ZenFone 4 Selfie and Selfie Pro

As the name might suggest, these two are all about taking the perfect selfies. The regular Selfie comes with Snapdragon 430 whereas the Pro is powered by Snapdragon 625. They will both sport a 5.5-inch OLED display (FHD for Pro and HD for the regular model), 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB of internal storage, and a 3,000 mAh battery.

The ZenFone 4 Selfie will come with a 20-megapixel/8-megapixel dual-lens front-facing camera whereas the ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro will feature a 24-megapixel/5-megapixel combination.

The front is where it gets interesting: the ZenFone 4 Selfie will come with a dual-lens camera on the front (20-megapixel/8-megapixel) as well as an LED flash, and the ZenFone 4 Selfie Pro will feature a 24-megapixel/5-megapixel dual-lens camera with an LED flash. The regular version will start at €299 or around $350, and the Pro will set you back €399 or $470. Except for the chipset, resolution, and front-facing cameras, the two devices are essentially identical-looking.

We are bound to get more information on the availability of the aforementioned devices as well as the ever-elusive ZenFone 4 Pro in the near future as we get closer to August 17, so stay tuned!
