RuneScape’s modern and classic versions headed to your nearest phone and tablet

Recognized as the MMORPG with the highest number of updates and the greatest aggregate playing time, RuneScape first debuted on PC way back in 2001. Fast forward 16 years, and the fantasy MMORPG is headed to phones and tablets.
According to RuneScape developer and publisher Jagex, both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape will be ported over to mobile devices. Both games will feature a “mobile-optimized interface,” though the more interesting aspects is how the mobile and PC versions will communicate with each other.

For starters, Jagex announced that mobile RuneScape players will be able to play with their PC counterparts. Furthermore, you can start the game on your computer and, if you need to head out, can continue playing where you left off on your phone or tablet. You can also choose to play solely on your mobile device, seeing how you will get full versions of RuneScape and Old School RuneScape.
According to a statement released to VentureBeat, Jagex chief operating officer Phil Mansell said an overwhelming majority of current players voiced their intent to play RuneScape on their mobile devices:
We believe in taking our games to wherever our players want them; recent player surveys showed an overwhelming 90% of active players and 64% of former players telling us of their very high intent to play on mobile.
Whether those players will actually play the fantasy MMORPG on the bus is another question, but the demand certainly seems to be there. Old School RuneScape will be released something this winter, while RuneScape will be released in 2018.
