Element’s 4K TV is the first to include Amazon Alexa and Fire TV

Amazon has done well for itself in the living room space with the Fire TV and Fire TV Stick. However, the online marketplace giant wants to integrate its Fire TV software into actual TVs, which is where Element and the Amazon Fire TV Edition come in.

As the name subtly implies, the Amazon Fire TV Edition opts for an interface that features Amazon’s overhauled Fire TV software. This includes Alexa, which folks can use to change channels, read sports scores, dim your living room lights, and launch apps, among other commands. However, folks must use the bundled voice remote if they want to use Alexa, since the TV will not constantly listen for the “Alexa” hotword.

The Fire TV software is not just there to take commands and download Amazon’s list of Fire TV apps — you can plug in your antenna and the TV will automatically download local listings with Gracenote. These listings are displayed by name instead of number, which should be more pleasing to the eyes, with TV channels also intermingling into the “Recents” area of the Fire TV software.

If all of this sound like your cup of tea, there are a few things to take note of before hitting that pre-order button. For one, the Amazon Fire TV Edition is a lineup of TVs, not just one – you can pick between 43, 50, 55, and 65-inch sizes. Prices fluctuate between $450 for the 43-inch version and $900 for the 65-inch, but all versions feature 4K Ultra HD resolutions.

The prices tell us that Amazon wants to compete with the likes of Roku and Google, which both have their TV software integrated into other TVs. If Amazon’s TV software is the one you prefer, the Amazon Fire TV Edition lineup of TVs is now available for pre-order, with availability set for June 14.
